Before dinner last night we got seats up on Deck 8 of the Piazza to see the acrobatic show. It's a couple from Poland who had an amazing routine.
We also had a waiter named Veon stop by and he took our cocktail orders (Tanqueray Negroni). When he returned with our drinks, he asked if we had been on the Island Princess last year. We had!! In hindsight, Angie and I had both thought he looked familiar. Sometimes we'll recognize a crew member and ask them if they were on a certain ship. I keep notes each time we cruise with a list of the crew members we've interacted with. It's a big help when you receive the post cruise survey and want to recognize them. Those surveys are used by the cruise lines for staff promotions and other rewards. Veon was on my Island Princess list from last July!! So great to see him again.
After the show we had dinner at The Catch which is the seafood specialty restaurant onboard. Starters were Tuna Nicoise salad and Fried Calamari. Both were okay but not spectacular. The tuna in the salad was a bit stringy and not the best quality. Also, the dressing needed some "pop". Just kind of boring and lacking acidity.
For mains, Angie ordered the grilled Branzino and I ordered grilled Red Snapper. The Branzino was delicious and perfectly cooked. Simply seasoned with crispy skin.
The Red Snapper on the other hand was one of the worst pieces of fish I have ever had. The skin and flesh were so tough I couldn't cut through with a regular knife. We called the restaurant manager over and showed him the issue. He quickly agreed it was not correct and I asked him for a Branzino which he delivered within a few minutes. Great customer service!! I've been to places where the manager or Maitre D will try to convince you that you just don't like how something was prepared to the chef's taste or are new to a cuisine. So it was refreshing to see this wonderful customer service.
For dessert, Angie had the strawberry pavlova and I had a chocolate dessert that was large profiteroles filled, some filled with whipped cream and some with ice cream along with a thin mocha sauce. The profiteroles were great!! Overall the meal was decent but not a "wow moment" like I was expecting. Our two prior experiences with a Rudi Sodamin restaurant on a ship were outstanding. Not this case. I wouldn't recommend it.
After dinner we headed back to the Piazza to watch the Silent Disco. If you've never attended, they provide you with headphones that have different music channels being played. Usually different genres in each. And you can switch from one to the other. The color on your headphones lets others know what channel you're listening to. It's a rare activity where it's as much fun to watch as it is to actually participate. After watching for a while, we headed back to the cabin.
Today we are in Naples. We have a food tour we booked outside of the cruise ship. We'll visit four places for some street food. That starts at 11 AM and will be a thirty minute walk from the port. Expecting another warm day will definitely bring our neck fans!!
