Edinburgh Part Two

Wednesday was our last full day in Edinburgh. We walked half a mile to our next hotel and stored our bags. Today's adventure would be all about the Royal Mille. This is a road that connects the old and "new" town. New is a relative wod since it was built in the mid 1800's. And up until the 1980's it was in extremely poor condition. Now it is a thriving business district with all kinds of shops and pubs. It's also a popular meeting spot for tours. We started at the Royal Cafe and had delicious bloody Marys. They drizzled a bit of red wine on the top and it really added a delicate dryness to the drink. Had never seen this done before and it really enhance the flavor. Also had a tasty smoked salmon Scotch egg.
Proper lunch was at Makars Mash Bar where Angie had the best presentation of mushrooms I have ever seen (or tasted).
Of course with your choice of mash! They had different mixins such as butter, onion, cheese and black pudding. The black pudding was really tasty. I had that with my smoked gammon which was a like a thick smoked ham steak. We also checked out a couple.og museums. Camera Obscura was several floors of optical illusions.
But the signature exhibit is the actual camera Obscura set up on the roof. It's a camera built 171 years ago based on simple photographic principles: A pinhole, mirror and light. And it still works today. Also checked out the Museum of Childhood. I'd mostly describe this as a hoarders collection of games and dolls. So many dolls!!! I just loved the look from this one doll. And of course we went to a couple of pubs including Worlds End. This is a bar at the every end of the Royal Mile. Legend says that there was a toll you had to pay here in order to cross into the new town. Many couldn't pay and had to remain here.

Dinner was at Queen's Arms which was a five minute walk from our hotel. Some tasty chicken and mushroom pies and the best Mac and cheese of the trio!!
