We walked around the waterfront and took a look at all the ships. Representing many countries including Poland, Ecuador, The Netherlands, the UK, Lithuania and of course Finland. We toured the ship from Poland.
Lots of festival foods. The Finnish really like their ice cream!!! Both soft serve and hard packed. And can't you have a festival without those famous Finnish churros!! I also found it so interesting that Brooklyn Brewery has a large presence here. Our prevailing theory is that Brooklyn Brewery established some sort of partnership with a local brewery to make their recipes. I've yet to see any other United States beers here so it would make sense. Scandinavians also appear to like licorice. In Stockholm there are some crazy ones that are known to cause cardiac arrest. Didn't find that here where most are of the sweeter or sour variety. Kind of a hybrid of sour gummy worms and traditional "American" licorice. But with a soft center. Somewhat like marzipan but without the almond flavor.
We found a good spot near the harbor for a snack.
When we had completed the tour of the festival grounds, it was time for some dinner. Angie had found Finlandia Caviar which of course had caviar in addition to oysters!!
Two of our favorite foods!! We tried some of each. White sturgeon was our favorite. A great nutty flavor with a subtle briny flavor. We were split on the oysters. I really liked the Gillardeau from France. Angie loved the Umami from The Netherlands.
After dinner we found a craft beer bar called Bier Bier one the way back to the hotel.
What a great selection of beers, especially sours. My favorite was the Salmiac Licorice Cherry Sour. Helsinki loves their licorice. Even when added to beer. We headed back to the hotel. Tomorrow we'll check out of Lilla Roberts hotel and head to the airport. We'll have a 2 PM flight from HEL to ATH. And we'll be staying in Piraeus for one night.
