Celebrity Edge Embarkation

Yesterday was our embarkation day on the Celebrity Edge. We showed up at the terminal at Port Everglades at 11:30 and were onboard by 11:45. We stopped by our muster station to get checked in. Celebrity is still doing an "E-Muster" process where you only need to find your muster location, check in with one of the uniformed crew, they scan your sail and sign card and give you a quick recap of the safety protocols. For the first time ever, we had a quiz!!! The crew member asked us what the emergency signal was. Do you know? Answer down below.

We then headed to our cabin on Deck 10 to drop off our luggage.

And then went to the buffet on Deck 14 for some lunch. They had lots of Irish themed dishes including a very good Guinness stew with mashed potatoes.

It was an absolutely gorgeous day so we headed to the Sunset Bar which is on Deck 15 aft for some outside time. Just a perfect day for sailaway!!

We then headed back to the cabin to unpack. Our one piece of checked luggage had arrived so we were able to put everything away. There were some activities we wanted to attend starting at 7PM so we planned for an early dinner. We have an AquaClass cabin which has its own restaurant called Blu.

Angie and I both started with the snow crab and avocado timbale.
It was a flavorful crab salad on top of a crispy piece of bread along with slices of avocado. Angie had the New England Chowder and I had the Moroccan soup. The NE chowder was described as a corn chowder but was nothing like that. It really had no discernable or interesting flavor to me, although it did have bits of corn. Not a good soup. The Moroccan soup was very flavorful. Reminded me of the sauce that is used in the Indian dish Butter Chicken. Very flavorful with hints off lemon and cream with pea tendrils for some crunch.

For mains, we both had a tasty tuna salad, cooked rare!! The arugula and dressing paired nicely with the simply seasoned tuna.

We also had an order of the pumpkin gnocchi. While not the best gnocchi I have ever had (that would be there gnocchi from Sabatinis on Princess) the pesto sauce was one of the best I have had. And there were some marinated artichokes along with goat cheese. The gnocchi didn't have any pumpkin flavor I could detect. But that worked in the dishes favor since I think a strong pumpkin flavor would have overwhelmed the pesto.

Neither of us wanted dessert so we headed down to the Atrium on deck 3 to get a seat for the orchestra. This band usually plays in the theater to support the production cast shows. But tonight there was a comedian in the theater. When that happens, those musicians are able to perform "regular"' sets around the ship. There was a guitarist, pianist, drummer and bass guitarast. We listened to two sets and then headed to play some general knowledge trivia. We won with a total of 15 points and earned two prize tickets!!! The comedian was having his second set so we walked in and it was standing room only!! He had a funny set with a lot of observational humor. He'll likely have some other shows during the sailing.

We ended the night at Eden for the "acoustic experience". It was a drummer and guitar player playing popular songs.

Today is a sea day. Probably going to be a day where wer use the spa. One of the amenities of that AquaClass cabin is younger access to the thermal suite. And the Edge class has one of the best thermal suite setups of any ship I have sailed. Tomorrow is also a sea day. Our first port of call with be St Maarten. We have no excursions planned so we will likely take a taxi to Maho Beach. That is ther famous beach next to the airport where the planes fly right over the beach. If you have never seen it, there are plenty of YouTube videos you can find. It is fascinating how close the planes come.

Muster answer: The emergency signal is seven short blasts of the ships horn followed by one long blast. If you hear that while on a ship, you need to head to your muster station.
