8.12.17 - 8.14.17 Bourbon weekend

Maker's Mark announced a special event with Chihuly so we decided that was a good excuse to head to Bourbon country. We flew into Louisville and started our day at Jim Beam.
Our favorite distilleries were Glenn Creek because we spent an hour and a half chatting with the distiller and Limestone Creek because we met one of the Beam brothers.
The Maker's Mark event was really fun. It was a lot of driving but we are glad we did it. There's still plenty more to taste when we go back. We were surprised that you have to do a tour most places before you can taste the bourbon. After a while all the distilleries look exactly the same.
We also had an interesting experience at Woodford Reserve. They presented that all the bourbon was made there but when we started asking questions that wasn't the case. The best example was when the guide was talking about the water from a spring on the property. She said that's why the bourbon is so good. I asked if they tanker the water to the second distillery in Louisville and she said no. Huh? So I guess not all the bourbon is made with the good water.
We were also surprised to learn that about 80% of Rye Whiskey gets it's start in Indiana. The different distilleries age it differently, but it is the same starting liquid.
