RIU Palace Costa Rica

April 1, 2024

After we landed at LIB, we quickly found our arranged transfer and headed towards the Riu Palace.  We arrived a few minutes after 3 PM.  A very quick check-in and our room was ready!!  This is a medium sized resort for families.  It has five restaurants including a buffet.  After a mandatory rest period, we decided to try Krystal which was defined as a fusion restaurant.  They had some tasty dishes.  The mushroom ragout was the ultimate comfort food. A savory mushroom stew over mashed potatoes topped with a lightly fried egg.  The  cold corn soup was so tasty with a slightly smoky sweet corn flavor.
And such a unique way to serve it as a pool in the middle of the greens. We both had the lobster and shrimp risotto as our main. The broth had the rich flavor of a great lobster bisque!!    Lots of seafood flavor as well as a hint of cognac.  Well cooked shrimp as well.  No dessert.

We hung out in the main theater for about half an hour, watching the entertainment staff rehearse for that nights 80's show.  It was about 7:30 and that show wouldn't be until 9 PM.  We were a bit tired from traveling, plus we had a two hour time change since leaving MIA.  We decided the best plan was to head back to the room for the night.

Today we'll explore the pool after some breakfast at the buffet.  It's expected to get up to 35° by the afternoon so we'll need to stay hydrated and cool.

Our last full day at the Riu Palace!! We had another great day at the pool bar. This resort has the absolute best managed bars I have ever seen at any hotel. And it's not even close. And I've been to quite a few. There is a sense of collaboration amongst the staff. They are all there to help the guests and each other. Getting the drink orders filled. Making sure you have what you need. Always cleaning. I honestly had lowered my expectations when coming here. Now the "bar" has been set for our next visits to Planet Hollywood and Margaritaville.

We had lunch at the steakhouse which is turned into a very large snack buffet during lunchtime. So many stations!! I had succulent roast pork leg with an amazing sweet and sour sauce, some delicious vegetable fried rice (also tasty with that same sauce) and a few pieces of maki. They also had rib eyes cooked to order as well as grilled fish and many chicken dishes. Plus a huge salad bar. Make sure you're following Angie's FB page Trips with Angie for more videos on this resort.

Dinner was at Tokio which is a Japanese restaurant. Some tasty dishes including gyoza, tekkadon tuna, ramen soup with duck, roasted salmon and grilled tuna. The tekkadon was my favorite.
Essentially it was deconstructed maki. A layer of seasoned sushi rice topped with thin slices of tuna. Then dusted with toasted sesame seeds and finally some thin slices of toasted nori. A well composed dish. The salmon was also excellent with such crispy skin. Moist and flavorful. It was served with a ponzu sauce which really complimented the fish. No dessert

After dinner we stopped by the lobby bar for a cocktail and chatted with some other guests. Today we'll check out of the hotel at noon and await our transfer at 1 PM. It will be about an hour drive to our next resort Planet Hollywood. I've stayed at their location in Cancun so will be curious how this one will.compare.
