Planet Hollywood Costa Rica Day 1

April 4, 2024

Yesterday we checked out of the Riu Palace at noon. Our transfer picked us up at 1 PM for the fifty minute drive to Planet Hollywood. We checked in at 2 PM and our room was ready about forty minutes later.
We also made reservations for dinner at Blue Star which is the Tex Mex restaurant. Some all-inclusive resorts have a no dinner reservations policy. You just show up like you would at a regular sit down restaurant. Planet Hollywood isn't one of them. You need to make your dinner reservations for that day starting in the morning at 6 AM.

After an orientation of the room from the bellman, we got ready for an afternoon in the pool. As we were approaching, they were having a foam party!! We chatted with some other couples and had some good laughs!! We headed back to the room about 6 PM as the pool bar was closing.

This resort is built on a cliff side so the paths to the different buildings are steep. There are some steps but we decided to wait for the golf cart to take us to the restaurant. It happened to be next to the pool we were at earlier. Dinner was very good. They had a good mix of Tex Mex favorites. I started with a chicken Caesar salad. The dressing was unlike any I had had before on a Caesar. It reminded me of the white BBQ sauce that is popular in Alabama. Angie had some wonderfully seasoned grilled shrimp that had been marinated in tequila. Mains were tempura fried fish tacos and chicken fajitas. The tacos had a spicy cabbage slaw that was a great contrast to the fish. And the fajitas were everything you would expect, absent if the sizzling cast iron pan you see (and hear) at Chili's!! We tried baked beans, loaded smoked mashed potato and a mac and cheese broccoli "skillet". All were very tasty although the potatoes had no discernible smoke flavor. And where the heck was the skillet? All jokes aside, it was a very tasty dinner. After our travel day, we decided to skip the show and head back to the room.

We were up this morning about 5 AM. Still adjusting to that two hour time difference. It did help the process for getting dinner reservations. They open up that desk at 6 AM. I walked up there at 5:55 and there were already about five people waiting. But I was able to secure Teppanyaki reservations for this evening at 7:30. We'll soon check out the breakfast situation and then it will be another pool day. I am sure there will be some fun activities.
