October 2021; MerMaiden Inagural on the Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady

On October 5th, we left Indianapolis where we had been celebrating my Mom's birthday and headed to Miami. We stayed the Holiday Inn Port of Miami and Glenn found a great restaurant for dinner, Ceviche 305, just around the corner. We called it an early night to watch the Red Sox game from the hotel.

the next morning, We got late checkout at the hotel and I worked most of the morning.

We headed to the port around 1 pm in an Uber. It took 9 minutes.

We dropped our bag with the Porter. He made us a luggage tag since we didn't have one. We got into a line that stretched down the terminal. We waited about 30 minutes in line to get to the first checkpoint. During that time, we registered for the test.

To enter the building, we had to go through a security check and they checked we were sailing. Then, we finished registration for your test and got our nasal swab. Then we left that building and went to the building we would board from. We had another security check.

We went to a large waiting room. We waited about 30 minutes for our test results. Someone brought us champagne so that was fun.

Our test results were emailed to us. We showed the result and got to go to a check in desk. Check in took a while since we didn't have wristbands.

After that, we had one last scan of the wristband and we were onboard. It took about 90 minutes from start to onboard.

We went to our cabin. It's nice. The bathroom is very small. The storage is fine for 4 days, but longer would be a little challenging.

We headed to The Galley for lunch. It's their answer to a buffet. You sit and then you can order from 5 different restaurants. The food was okay.

We explored the ship. It is really different than any ship I've been on. Every restaurant and bar is very enclosed. You can't see into other bars. The bartenders are friendly and the drinks we good. We went up on deck to watch sailaway. There was a few mermaids in the pool and a DJ playing.

Dinner was Razzle Dazzle. Glenn covered that in his blog. I was disappointed overall, but I loved the Popcorn Old Fashioned and the Churro dessert.

After dinner, we went to "UntitledDanceShowThing" in The Red Room which is their version of a theater. It was standing room only and with dancers.

It was really different and I really enjoyed it.

Then, we headed up to Deck 16 for the PJ party. They have large day beds up there. Glenn tried out the net earlier in the day, but it's really painful to walk on.

They had extra pillows and a DJ. It started to rain so we went to bed.

Day 2 - Nassau, Bahamas

We had a leisurely morning. I worked and Glenn went for a walk on the track.

At 10:00 am, the Captain made an announcement there would be a Junkaroo parade on the pier welcoming us to Nassau. We headed down to the pier. It was a lot of fun.

We went to The Galley for a late breakfast. It was okay. Our dining turned around at The Dock. It's a large outdoor lounge at the aft of the ship. It's our favorite spot so far. They have a Mediterranean snacks menu. We had the shrimp and the octopus and both were fantastic. We hung out there for most of the afternoon.

We went to a game show at 4:30 pm. Four contestants had to do different challenges. At 5:30 pm, we had tickets to Dual Reality. It's a circus type show with incredible acrobatics. It was fantastic.

We had dinner at Gunbae. It's a communal Korea inspired dining experience.  It was a lot of fun. The server cooks your proteins and veggies on a grill in the middle of the table.

The Bibimbop was the highlight. They mix it tableside. We sat with a nice couple from North Carolina - Andrew and Helena - and two nice travel agents.

After dinner, it was time for Scarlet Night. The 6th and 7th decks were decorated with inflatable sea creatures.

The casts of the shows do pop up performances all over the ship. Then at 10:30 pm we headed up to the pool deck for an incredible pool party that ended with a lot of people in the pool.

 Day 3 - Bimini, Bahamas

We docked in Bimini. Virgin Voyages built a beach club near Bimini Resorts.

It's about a 6 minute tram ride from the port. Virgin Voyages provides the tram. It's really nice with two pools and a long beautiful beach.

We spent the whole day there. Lunch was really good. The chicken curry and pork were my favorites.

Around 3 pm, there was a little pool party with a DJ. We stayed until 7 pm when they lit the bonfires on the beach.

We came back, had a drink at The Dock and then we to Pink Agave for dinner. It's the Mexican restaurant. It was a great experience. The waiters Victor and Rejoice were awesome. The food was great. They had a DJ. Then, we sat outside at The Dock for a while and went to bed.

Day 4 - Sea Day

Glenn tried the french toast breakfast burger while I enjoyed the balcony hammock and filmed a video.

We went to brunch at Wake. It was delicious. I got the soft shell crab Benedict and it was delicious.

After brunch, we headed to The Dock to relax. We spent most of the day there until the ship changed course and it got too sunny. Then, we headed down to Sip.

We went to the Cocktail Hour with Abi the Hostess. I thought it was just going to be a happy hour with her walking around, but she performed a fun Cabaret type show.

We had 7:45 pm dinner at the Test Kitchen. It's a fun concept with a preset menu. The mushroom appetizer was the best.

After dinner, we headed to Social Club where Glenn performed a crowd pleasing Mr Brightside.

We also saw the Virgin Voyages CEO playing table shuffleboard.

We ended the night with some live music at On The Rocks .

Day 5 - Heading Home

We had breakfast this morning at Razzle Dazzle and an easy disembarkation.  We took the Red Coach from the Miami to USF and then Uber'd home.
