7.19.13 Weekend in Dallas

We headed off to Dallas to meet up with two college friends and meet their  twins. We left on an early flight Friday morning. We met at their house and then headed to downtown McKinley. It is adorable! We found a tapas bar.

We were a little worried because it was totally empty, but the food was really good. Some of the favorites were fried peppers, goat cheese stuffed red peppers, a cheese fondue that we wanted to eat as soup, and chorizo croquettes. So good! We wanted a sweet treat to end the meal so we headed to a ice cream counter for some hand scooped ice cream and pie.

After that, they introduced us to an incredible beer bar - The Flying Saucer. (Don't worry - we left the babies at day care). The list was amazing and we got to try lots of fantastic beers.

We headed back to the house for dinner. The weekend was filled with lots of game playing, walks around the neighborhood and just hanging out. It was great. Saturday night, we headed to Smoke - a much acclaimed restaurant in a an up and coming area of Dallas. We had a fantastic meal. The ribs were definitely the highlight, but the pork jowl bacon was terrific and unlike anything we have ever had.

And of course, we had to sample all the desserts.

The key lime pie was the tallest, but the churros were definitely the best. After dinner, we headed across the street to Bar Belmont - a balcony bar. It offered a terrific view of downtown Dallas and the same cocktail/appetizer list as Smoke.
